Real or fake? This question is asked of a lot of things: paintings, jewelry, bosoms and yes, handbags. Whether your Louis Vuitton is real or fake is your business, isn’t it?

Well, yes and no. Obviously, if your LV is real, you will probably eagerly correct anyone that hints that it is not. After all, you paid good money for the bag, and might even be appalled that someone would assume it is a replica.

On the other hand, if your bag were a replica, would you really tell people that it is a fake? Would you tell them by purchasing a replica, instead of the real thing, that you knowingly took money away from the designers that created the real bag? Would you mention that the money you spent for the bag possibly went to terrorist organizations. Or that the manufactures of your fake bag could have used their handbag business to transport thousands of dollars worth of cocaine into the country? I doubt you would mention any of these things to an inquisitive acquaintance.

I know it sounds harsh, but knowingly buying a replica bag is wrong. (Note: buying replica handbags is not illegal but selling them is.)

Designers like Gucci, Kate Spade, Chanel and Hermes charge so much for their product because they are highly sought after and they are made from quality materials. Many bags by these designers are made by hand. Also, these designers spend millions on advertising, customer care, quality assurance and customs. By buying a replica, you are taking directly from these designers.

Buying replicas also takes from the US economy. Companies that sell replica handbags often do so as cash based, tax free business. If you have bought a replica handbag before, think back, did you pay tax for on the purchase. Probably not.

We all know that authentic designer handbags are pricey, but that doesn’t mean you should buy a knock-off. Just because something is out of your price range is no reason to rip off the company that manufactures the product.

Real or replica…which is right for you? I don’t really see you have a choice. Always buy real.

here's my comment to all!! If you want to buy the real thing!! Good for you!!! If you want the replica one!! Your a smart cookie!! I purchased a replica and then purchased the real on special occasion ! ( birthday, Xmas) I have them both!!! I compared them , I can't even tell !! You probably have to be ultra jealous and snoop around to make sure that I have the authentic one!!! I enjoyed them all!!! My bags doesn't define me as a person nor my status in my circle of friends!! I have friends who can afford them, but still buy the replica especially if the real one is sold out!!! Or their favorite real bag is ruined and they absolutely love it they will buy the replica!! I think we outsmart the people that buy the real one!!! Il use my money in buying the real thing that will definitely will not tarnish!!! Or has true value in the long run!!! (gold, diamond, college education, and house) Ladies bags come and go , changes every season!! So spend your money wisely!!!

It is so sad that there is actually someone out there, who thinks her right in life, because she has a little more than someone else, is to "rock" the real bags. Her right in life because she has money, but it's not hers so she can just throw it away! I would be very surprised if she actually has any "real" friends with a comment like that. She has probably never worked a day in her life. Otherwise she would get- what is so easy to see, to anyone, with common sense. Why pay their ridiculous prices, if you dont have to? I make a good living and don't intend on wasting it. But that's what smart working women do. Im sure she probably has a dad in the Hotel business and is running around collecting small dogs to dress up.

Hi there all,

I've always purchased Guess handbag original from anywhere $30-$50 only when they are on SALES. But, I've always wanted to have one of either Coach or Louis Vuitton and I could NOT afford $200-$2,000. When I realized how much people are selling inspired or replica I was able to finally get one. Even if I have millions, I would never purchased over $100 in one purse. Is that make me no class and broke? I don't think so. I've work w/someone who always purchased handbags strictly original and is always broke. Anyway, to help others who always dreamed of owning a designer handbags so I decided to sell an inspired designer. They are not authentic, they are simply a designer inspired in which the design was made more to looks like designer brands. I was doing my research, that selling replicas are legal as long as you do not pass it around as 100% authentic like other people do.

It really disturbs me that "you people" think it's okay to buy knock off merchandise and walk around not caring how the companies that make them and the people that spend good money to buy the real ones feel. If it was legal to sell them, you wouldn't need to go down a dark alley or attend those stupid parties. How many business vendors that have a licenses do you see selling those products in their store fronts???????? I will tell you many of you that make those awful purchases walk into the same store to compare your "knock offs", Guess what, you can tell the difference. The sad reality is that if you saved for the real thing you would get the privileges that come with the real thing like "warranties". The designers create and sell those bags for the price that they do cause they come with certain perks which spending half of that on a fake won't get you. I work hard and save to be able to afford what I want which is the real deal, you guys should try that sometime.

Question....why should we care how buying a fake handbag makes you feel??? Do you stop the average person carrying a Louis Vuitton bag and inspect it for certain Louis Vuitton characteristics? I have a fake Louis Vuitton and you cannot tell it's fake. I've been to the Louis Vuitton store to make a comparison. Mine is real leather with the oxidizing leather handles. It has the alcantara lining. You would have to get out a magnifying glass to spot the difference. Don't belittle someone who can't afford the real thing. They may have better things to spend a thousand dollars on....like a 9 month old baby. That is where MY priorities lie. Not making you or a designer with their millions of dollars happy.

I'm reallllly curious why anyone gives a $%&*@$%& less why someone is buying knockoffs vs. the real thing. That's just silly. I have real bags and I have replica's. It's just a purse. lol They don't have feelings. I carry a chanel right now that is fake fake fake and when people ask me if it's real I tell them its fake! I don't care! I have lots of friends who carry a mix just like I do and I don't really care. A purse is a purse regardless of what it has on it. BTW I love my chanel (fake) and the only reason people think it's fake because the real bag is thousands of dollars and they wouldn't expect me to WASTE money on the real thing when I have MORE important things to work for! For example my 13 month old. I'm sorry that your priorities for your hard earned money is an over-priced bag.

If you want a replica purse buy it. If you can afford the real thing, then buy it. Case closed.

I'd laugh so hard if Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci etc... went out of business. The only sad part would be that their products become a collectors item and cost $$$ more, it would possibly put those poor Chinese sweat shop workers out of a job. But then again there are other things that can be replicated since the westerners are so intent on keeping up with the Jones's.

People with small bank accounts and no educaction obviously don't know that when they buy a replica handbag they support a multimillion-dollar business that promotes drug trafficking, illegal child labor and stealing (no tax payment) from the government, consequently helping weaken the already weak American economy.

Keep education and financial status out of the argument.  It is illegal to buy replica handbags.  They are counterfeits.  Counterfeiting is illegal.  This is not a rich person/poor person argument.  Bottom line, it's illegal to sell counterfeit goods.  When you buy a "replica" you are buying an illegal, counterfeit product.

It is only illegal if the seller says it is a LV when it is a replica. IF they say it is a replica it is not illegal... Obviously education is a big factor seeing as how you are uneducated on the matter. I have a lot of real bags, but guess what i am anticipating my REPLICA LV bag... Now this whole business of it promoting terrorist and drugs. Is simply not true. I am buying my bag from a vender in Honk Kong who has nothing to do with drugs. Be smart about your purchases. I am 25 and I OuT right own a my home, and car NO MORTGAGE OR CAR payments. No my parents didn't buy it. I simply make good money choices. I will continue buying both real and replicas. I am also not ashamed to tell people when something is fake! No problem at all.
